What's your favorite breakfast?

Growing up in Russia, cereal and milk were unheard of as breakfast foods. Instead, we had porridge (gag me!), cheese sandwiches, or sometimes even leftovers of the dinner the night before.

Even now I would not blink twice before eating borscht or leftover pizza for breakfast.

I go on weekly stints of eating the same thing for breakfast: sometimes it's Greek yogurt (plain) with cucumbers and tomatoes, or Wasa crackers with flavored cream cheese, or occasional attempt at actually liking the taste of oatmeal.

But one of my favorite breakfast combinations is bagels (or Wasa crackers) with cream cheese and smoked salmon.

This weekend I got lucky! {no dirty thoughts, people!} Cecilia brought bagels that she made herself as well as salmon she smoked in her apartment and home made cream cheese for me when we both attended a cooking class at Casa Nonna.

Sunday morning I toasted the bagel, smeared it with cream cheese, added slices of smoked salmon, radish and cucumbers and a few "branches" of dill. It was beyond amazing. The salmon melted in my mouth. It's going to be hard going back to store bought smoked salmon now.

It's your turn now: what's YOUR favorite breakfast food?

oK, My favorite breakfast is 'sweet', I mean coffe and milk, sugar or honey, and biscuits or cake, generally with jam! If I prepared something the day before, such as apple-pie, I have this!

Mmm. My favorite breakfast is usually some sort of "Benedict" -- English muffins with veggies & ham & hollandaise.

But, if you give me a great bagel and some cream cheese, I'm a pretty happy camper!

One of my family's favorite is Apple Butter Coffeecake. For recipe: http://t.co/OJ5Q2cy via @FanOfFoodBlog

mmm I love smoked salmon. That breakfast looks amazing.

I (almost) always have 2 drippy eggs on sprouted wheat toast. Sometimes I throw some avocado on there if I'm feeling crazy. I'm a savory breakfast person, for sure!

I would love that breakfast too! My favorite has always been poached eggs on hash on toast. For a more upscale version, I get eggs Benedict when I go out.

those bagels look absolutely delicious! the composed bagel sandwich is so bright and fresh looking.

did you win the free casa nonna class? how was it? I still haven't been able to visit there, though I pass it often.

This looks so delicious. Now I'm really craving this.

My favorite breakfast in the whole world is a grilled bagel with cream cheese and sliced tomatoes, crispy home fries, with chewy bacon, and a Diet Pepsi. Not super healthy at all and a little weird, but it tastes good to me.

Most days I eat Greek yogurt, oatmeal, or granola with a giant glass of water.

Because of you, I just finished eating garlic bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese and capers. It hit the spot for now, but yours looks so much better!

This is classically Western European, especially Holland, Germany, Switzerland and eastern Europe: cheese, meats, yogurt (or quark)with bagels or rye bread slices. I think cereals for breakfast was originally a legacy of the British Isles.

Those bagels look heavenly! Oh, how I would love a good bagel with schmear right now... sigh...

My favorite breakfast is the one I eat every morning: Muesli + frozen fruit + cinnamon soy milk soaked overnight. Delicious & perfect, every day.

Lately, my favorite breakfast is a banana liberally smeared with Crunchy Peanut butter and drizzled with Chocolate Syrup.
And a Caramel Chocolate Coffee with heavy Cream to wash it down.
It is quite decadent!
