Recipe for Monkey Bread Using Bread Machine

A few Saturdays ago my friend Cindy had a party. I decided to come a few hours earlier to help out with the food preparation and to have some time to catch up one on one. Cindy was making one of her favorite recipes: Monkey Bread. Although I've tried that bread a few times, it's always been a day after she baked it. This time, I tried it straight out of the oven: it's incredibly good! Soft, slightly sweet, fluffy, fun to eat, and a great party dish.

I took a few photos while Cindy was baking the bread and am happy she was willing to share her recipe with all of you.

**Note: this recipe starts in a bread machine. I'm sure you can figure out how to make it without a bread machine, and if you do, please share!

Cindy's Recipe for Monkey Bread Using Bread Machine
(list of ingredients and directions by Cindy)

Ingredients
2 cups white bread flour
1 cup white whole wheat flour
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 ½ teaspoon salt
3 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1 ½ cups low-fat milk
1 Tablespoon instant yeast
6 Tablespoons butter, melted - See more at: http://www.taverndirectblog.com/mango-butter-on-monkey-bread#sthash.fnKHPMao.dpuf

2 cups white bread flour
1 cup white whole wheat flour
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 ½ teaspoon salt
3 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1 ½ cups low-fat milk
1 Tablespoon instant yeast
6 Tablespoons butter, melted

Directions
1. Put all the ingredients except the melted butter in your bread machine, in the order suggested by the manufacturer. Choose a whole wheat dough only cycle.
2. Lightly oil a 12 cup Bundt pan.
3. When dough is ready, punch down on a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough into a long thin strand, about 18-20 inches long. Cut into about 32 small pieces. They do not have to be round or exact slices, or any particular shape. Different shapes are more fun.
4. Dip each piece in the melted butter and layer in the Bundt pan. Try to leave a little space around the pieces, not to squish them in too tightly.

5. Allow to rise again in a warm place, covered with a towel, for 45 minutes or so (more if it’s cold in the house).
6. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 25-30 minutes. Remove from oven, and when slightly cooled, place a plate over the top and flip upside down to invert.

Isn't it gorgeous??? I hope you make this soon for your family! Thank you Cindy for sharing the recipe and the bread with me!

Have a great weekend! I'll be in Madison attending a cheese festival!! Follow along on instagram and twitter.

So interesting. I always make monkey bread by dipping the pieces in cinnamon sugar after the butter. I don't think I've seen a plain one like this before. Mine starts with a white bread dough, but a lot of people buy biscuit dough for a shortcut.

Yes! I've heard about that method too, but it'd probably be too sweet and cinnamon'y for me ;)
