Earlier this week I made a basic hummus recipe and then added 2 special ingredients to it to make it...well, special :)
Basic Hummus Recipe
2 cups garbanzo beans
1/3-1/2 cup liquid (water, or liquid from canned garbanzo beans...or part of each)
2 tablespoons tahini
2 garlic cloves
juice of 1 lemon
salt & pepper
In a blender puree all ingredients until they are well incorporated and smooth. Add more liquid/salt/pepper if needed. Feel free to add olive oil to taste.
I then divided the basic hummus into 3 parts: one remained as is, and I added a few tablespoons of store-bought pesto to the 2nd part: Pesto Hummus.
I put the last portion of basic hummus back into the food processor and added one roasted pepper and pureed the whole thing together to make Roasted Red Pepper Hummus.
Note: looking back, I should have cut down a bit on garlic because pesto already had a lot of garlic, and combined with the garlic in the basic recipe it was a bit overwhelming.
Other suggestions: in the past I've added sundried tomatoes to hummus; you can also experiment with olives, or try my butternut squash hummus recipe.
I love hummus too...I understand what you say, but the question almost begs - how can you possibly have too much garlic?? Seriously, these look great & what a good idea to add a red pepper - lots of vitamin C too!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the presentation!

I love hummus - but I've never made it myself. I'm afraid that I'll mess it up horribly and it'll just ruin my hummus loving all-together!!
ReplyDeleteYours all look great. I love the colors.
I love hummus and your variations sound delicious. I will definitely have to try them.
