Oatmeal: Love it or Hate it? Oatmeal With Kimchi & Fried Egg

Oatmeal: Love it or Hate it? Personally, I'm not a huge fan...well, unless it's loaded with sweet things like dark chocolate chunks, toasted pecans, dried cherries, etc. But then I might as well eat dessert, right?

Wrong! There is another way to eat a bowl of oatmeal: a savory way! Remember the savory oatmeal with leeks, ginger, and an egg I made a while back? Well, this is its cousin: Oatmeal With Kimchi & Fried Egg.

Oatmeal With Kimchi & Fried Egg
Serves 1

Ingredients
1 cup cooked oatmeal
1/4-1/3 cup kimchi
1 fried egg
1 scallion, thinly sliced
2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds

Yes, just FIVE ingredients make this gorgeous and flavorful breakfast!

Directions {not that you need them!}

1. In a bowl, add oatmeal.
2. Top with kimchi, fried egg, scallions and sesame seeds.
3. For extra flavor, add a bit of the liquid from the kimchi.

Dig in!!!

Have you made savory oatmeal before? What do you put into yours?

Now that's an interesting twist on oatmeal Olga... not entirely sure if I would like it as I am still undecided on kimchi in the first place... ;) But if looks are anything to go by it looks wonderful!

I just saw your kimchi oatmeal recipe while eating Sriracha Oatmeal, from Huffington Post's list of great oatmeal recipes. Your recipe looks amazing, and while I am really enjoying my Sriracha oats, yours look even better. Thanks for sharing!!

I also have a recipe for kimchi grilled cheese on the blog! For some reason the search functionality isn't working, but here's a link: http://www.mangotomato.com/2013/11/grilled-cheese-sandwich-with-kimchi-and.html

Wow I am a native Korean who have been living in Seoul for several decades. Even though I have tons of homemade kimchi in my refrigerator I even think about making oatmeal with Kimchi. You inspire me a lot. Thank you so much!
By the way, have you ever tried this with sautéed kimchi ? I think it is going to be great. Because when we make a kimchi porridge in Korea , we usually sauté it with various food including tuna , pork or beacon. Also you can put some sesame oil, too.
Bon appetite!

Thanks!
I've never tried oatmeal with sautéed kimchi, but it makes perfect sense because that's what I do with fried rice and kimchi ;)
